Principle of Correspondence
The Principle of Correspondance
As above, so below; as below, so above.
The Hermetic Principle of Correspondence, the second of the seven Hermetic Principles outlined in The Kybalion, teaches that "As above, so below; as below, so above." This principle highlights the idea that there is harmony, agreement, and correspondence between the different planes of existence—physical, mental, and spiritual. In essence, it asserts that what happens on one level of reality reflects what occurs on another.
This principle helps us understand the interconnection between the microcosm (our individual lives) and the macrocosm (the universe). The patterns and structures we see in nature, the stars, and the cosmos mirror the patterns within ourselves and our inner world. By observing one level, we can gain insight into the other, as all things are interconnected and governed by the same underlying laws.
Practically, the Principle of Correspondence suggests that by working on our inner mental or spiritual world, we can create change in our outer reality, and vice versa. It invites us to see the universe as a system of mirrored layers, each influencing and reflecting the other. This principle is often applied in spiritual practices like astrology, alchemy, and meditation, where understanding these connections leads to deeper self-awareness and mastery of life's mysteries.
Ultimately, the Principle of Correspondence reminds us that the universe operates with an inherent order and interconnectedness, and by aligning ourselves with this wisdom, we can find balance and harmony in both our inner and outer worlds.

The Kybalion is a metaphysical text published in 1908 by three anonymous authors known as "The Three Initiates." It presents the foundational teachings of Hermetic philosophy, a spiritual system based on the wisdom attributed to the ancient Egyptian sage Hermes Trismegistus. The book outlines seven universal principles that govern the nature of reality, including Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender. These principles provide insight into the workings of the universe and offer practical guidance for spiritual growth, self-mastery, and understanding the deeper truths of existence. The Kybalion is highly regarded in esoteric and mystical traditions for its concise and accessible presentation of Hermetic thought.
